A Step Up
Being a photographer is a wonderful thing. There are so many opportunities to meet interesting people, appreciate stunning landscapes, and to create beautiful art. In addition to that my passion for photography leads me to a lifetime of learning. There is always a new idea, a new way of seeing, a new technique to be explored. Much of my free time is spent studying photography books and watching tutorials, as well as some good old fashioned practice time. I also love to take time to learn in person from other photographers that I admire. This past summer I was very fortunate to be able to spend some time with the very talented photographer and mentor, Dave Brosha (have a look at his work at https://davebrosha.com). Over the course of two days we photographed several carefully chosen models and locations in order to achieve my goals. I could not have had a better experience, and came away feeling confident that I had indeed taken a step up in my never ending journey to grow into a stronger photographer. Please enjoy some of the results that we created together.
Adia demonstrated her award winning Muay Thai Kickboxing skills. I had never seen this type of kickboxing before, so was very interested in learning about it.
Karin was our model for some studio work featuring her body artwork.
I was honoured to be able to photograph Bert Crowfoot wearing his traditional headdress. He is a very fun loving man and his headdress was truly beautiful.
We finished off the first day photographing another photographer/model Renee Robyn. I am always excited to photograph in a field of flowers!
Day two began with photographing Dave Brosha himself (again, you can find him at https://davebrosha.com). We worked on finding compositions in a back alley and tried some black and white photography.
I was excited to meet Sissy. She is an indigenous dance performer and instructor (find her on Instagram at Wase Saba Experiences https://www.instagram.com/wasesabaexperiences/). She is a beautiful dancer and her traditional dress was amazing!
We finished up the day photographing Arianna dancing in a natural environment. She was so much fun to work with!
It was a whirlwind of activity for two days, but worth every minute. If any of my photographer friends out there are looking for a quality educator, Dave Brosha comes highly recommended!
