Little Tea Party on the Prairie

Sometimes life is hard. This past year this amazing little girl fought as hard as she could to beat Wilm’s Disease, which is a type of childhood kidney cancer. Iylee was doing her best to stay brave, but once in awhile everyone needs a break from the fight. Sometimes when life is hard, you need to have a tea party.

We planned all the details. The theme would be gold and white as those are the official childhood cancer colours. Her grandmother and aunt sewed dresses, we bought cookies and tea that her little tummy would like, we found her mom a gold dress, and asked a wonderful florist (Willy at Thistle and Sage in Brooks, AB) to make a floral crown that wouldn’t scratch Iylee’s pretty head.

It was pure joy for me to watch Iylee and her mom pick flowers, twirl their skirts (at Iylee’s request!), and enjoy their tea party together. Pinkies up! It was wonderful to be able to do this for this sweet girl. AND…I’m happy to report she has finished her treatments and is doing very well.
